The Uncommons Historical Re-enactment Group

History… and bows?

The Uncommons began with many late night discussions about the importance of bringing community together. How do we merge crafting, inquiry, research, and invite a diverse group of people to learn by doing? This was the core idea behind what we started in 2025 at Sanctuary Armoury, inviting university students, retirees, crafters, professionals, and youth to share in the practice of archery, fencing, and building.

Since we began, we have built a coal blacksmith’s forge, hold regular meetings to practice archery, and we continue to encourage enthusiastic collaboration between makers, scholars, and the public.

The Uncommons engages with international research and encourages participation in regional and international events by members, including conferences and major re-enactment events.
